Rack marks and contact points after pre-treatment: how do you reduce them?

We are seeing contact marks that only appear after pre-treatment, before the part even reaches the plating tank.

Possible causes we are reviewing: rack tension, contact area, spring pressure, part deformation during transfer, and solution attack on the contact point.

How do you specify rack contacts for decorative parts where marks are unacceptable?

  • Contact geometry and spring material
  • Current per contact and temperature rise
  • Rack maintenance and replacement interval
  • Masking or stop-off methods

Photos of rack design are welcome if you can share them without customer identification.
